I had my haircut this morning (so much better than my last hair cut - hair don't rather than hair do) . Then walked round to Angela's and had lunch and a good old natter. We're going to her neighbour's on Monday. We're going to learn how to read auras. I must admit I feel a bit like Pam from Gavin and Stacey. I'll let you know how we get on.
Low light of the week: Wednesday evening, sitting in front of the fridge defrosting the freezer bit with a hair dryer.

Fences
When we moved into our house the garden fence was very rickety. We live in a block of six houses and the garden fences are about 5 foot high. The gardens back on to an alley way where our garages are.
When we decided to get the dogs we knew we would have to sort out the fence. Greyhounds can jump and the Re homing lady said that the fence should be six foot. I must admit it did look a bit unfriendly -all these little fences and our big fortress fence. However our neighbour got her fence done as well. Now I can see the people next to her are doing a big fence. it does look better ...and it isn't as unfriendly as it could be because we chat over the adjacent fences.
OMG what am I doing? I've just blogged about fences. And I did so because I thought Alan building his fence was interesting. Gina Robbo? Gina Boring more like!

Significant Others
I spend 3 hours a day travelling to work. And that gives me extra thinking time. I stare out of the train window and think about things. Then I have a little snooze. Its a hard life. The past couple of days I've been thinking about past relationships and how I feel about those people now.
I think what ever happens with me and Steve, he will always be a significant other. Knowing him has made a difference to the person I am today. He has influenced my life.
Now I met Steve when I was 28, so he wasn't my first boyfriend. Aside from him there have been 2 other men that I thought I was in love with. let's call them A and B. Thinking about B it is frightening how he has faded from my memory. I now regard him as a blip along the way. nothing that serious. But reader how devastated I was when he dumped me! I was engaged to the bloke!
bloke A - well I still dream about him. They are nightmares. I met him when i was 16 and he was 22. Now what 22 year old is interested in some one that much younger than him? I think the answer is an insecure, bullying one. But then I might be a tad biased . But sadly I think A is a significant other - in that his horrible behaviour did leave his mark on me. Towards the end of our relationship bloke B was a bit of a sod and did some hurtful things - but looking back I think that wasn't on purpose. He was in a situation he wanted to get out of and didn't handle very gracefully. Whereas I know Bloke A went out of his way to try and undermine and make me feel bad because he could and he liked to do so. However he had underestimated me because one day I walked. And I don't think he ever thought I would do that.
Funnily enough a year after I left him A wrote me a letter apologising for his behaviour, he said that he had always been jealous of me. Oh and by the way could we get back together? The letter went straight in the bin.

Slept really well last night . Hurray!
I've been feeling "on edge" today. Generally worrying about things that might never happen. I hate it when I get like this!

Sleep and stuff
I didn't sleep very well last night. Steve couldn't sleep and I could hear him pressing the keys on his phone. I didn't say anything, but lay there with my eyes shut seething.
Whilst drying my hair this morning my hair brush fell apart. As I have no idea how long I've had it, suspect it must be very old indeed.
Tom peed up against the radiator this evening. There was no need as he had just been let out. and if he wanted to go out he should have barked, like he normally does.
Apart from that it has been a good day.

Bar Code Question.
Has any one out there got a device that can scan bar codes on their mobile phone? I'm told it is all the rage in Japan and was wondering if it was catching on over here....
I over heard a girl saying " I'm 24 I'm old enough to do what I want" Darling- you are never old enough for that.

Sunday
When of my birthday treats was a Beauty Spa voucher (thanks Ruth and Claire!) and yesterday I had a full body massage and facial. Pure bliss. I must budget to allow myself massages more often. It was just a shame that I had to go out in to the bitter cold afterwards. I'm one of those people who would rather be too cold than too hot but its nearly May for goodness sakes.

Talking to David
I was talking to David. Well, rather I was doing the listening.
"I want everyone to know how important I am. I'm special. Really special. I want people to talk about me when I'm not there. I want them to say how special I am. People need to think about me I am very important. People realise how important I am. When they know how special I am I get a warm feeling"
David has learning difficulties, but I thought as he was talking, everyone thinks that about themselves. We're just not as open about it.

Bits and Pieces and Bullet Points
1. Took Tom out for an early morning walk. Walked by the posh apartments over looking the sea. the inhabitants were on their balconies in their PJs shouting across to each other. Urgh! Took about lower the tone of your million pound pad.
2. Coming back was charming, polite but FIRM to the Jehovah's Witnesses.
3. Went round Mum and Dad's last night. Conversation was interesting as the older we all get the more forgetful we are of people's names or words for things. At times it was a bit like Give us a Clue.
4. Got my hair cut yesterday. the girl washing my hair was very rough and gave me a headache. Needless to say I didn't mention it to her, but it has put me off going there again.
5.Have an over whelming urge to rearrange the furniture in the living room. Am developing irrational hatred of the dining table. Steve thinks I'm mad. I think it is a woman thing. Steve reckons the living room has the perfect lay out. I want to go out and buy all new furniture. Check calender for when period is due. Although now I'm in my forties - is it a menopause thing?
6. Steve has got Football Manager on his mobile. He is so happy.
7.When walking Tom it was so hot I actually took my coat off. Since then we have had hail stones.
8. Read this . John how could you? I don't care he is still my favourite Doctor.

Thursday
Am exhausted as I didn't get my 40 winks in the train home tonight. I don't mind though because I came home on the train with Mum, Angela and the Little Dudes. They had spent the day at the London Aquarium. On the way back they managed to miss the Tower boat stop and ended up at Canary Wharf...that sort of stuff only seems to happen to Angela.

Snowy Sunday.
Yep its snowy again. I took tom for a walk and the cold snow falling on my head made my head ache. I rang Angela, who is in Cardiff. She said it was sunny there! She had taken the little dudes to see the Doctor Who exhibition. They loved it.
Steve and his dad, Pete are downstairs watching the Grand Prix. Its Pete's birthday soon and Steve given him his present. I told Steve to use one if the gift bags (well don't you recycle them as well?). All the gift bags are under my desk. All loaded into the biggest bag, tidy like. After Mr Robbo had been through them there are all over the place, untidy like. I will make his life a misery for that.

This is true
This morning as I walked to catch my train, a pair of knickers fell out of my trouser leg.
I'm pleased to say that I recognised them (otherwise Mr R would have had a lot of explaining to do) and they were clean.

On the way home I had the misfortune to sit beside a selfish commuter. You know - one seat isn't enough for them , they encroach on to your space. I had a chuckle though when he had a "sleep spasm" thingy. Ha! ha! I laugh at you Selfish Commuter.

Weekend
I'm really tired. We spent the weekend in a Norfolk barn with Steve's parents and his brother Dave. We also took the dog.To every one's astonishment it was warm! yesterday we went to Wells next to Sea and walked for MILES. i do like Wells, it has a beautiful harbour and interesting shops. Its all a bit arty crafty and, best of all for us, VERY dog friendly. All the dogs are on leads which is a blessing for us, as we always keep Tom on a lead. You never know what might trigger that race instinct-but it makes it tricky when dogs that are off the lead but are not trained show an interest in Tom. Inconsiderate dog owners really get on my nerves...but I'm not going to gone on about that now.
We got home about one-ish today and my new glasses have arrived. Reader, I look blummen gorgeous..but you are going to have to take my word for that, until I upload a new photo. Specs wearers will now it takes a little while for your eyes to adjust to new glasses, but I'm used to them now.

Robbo Rant
When I got home from work the phone book directory thingy was propped up outside the door- letting everyone know we weren't in. Why do I have to have a phone book? If I want a number I can look it up on t'internet. Takeaways deliver their menus so I don't use the book for that. I haven't looked up a phone number for years. They are big bulky things and frankly they get on my nerves. Can you opt out of having a phone directory delivered?

Weekend

We spent the Easter weekend at Center Parcs. We had a brilliant time. My parents v. generously paid for it all for my birthday. We shared a chalet with them and Angela and her family were next door. We had views over the lake. The wildlife you see is fantastic, I even saw a rodent dear.
The weather! It turned into a snow covered winter wonderland. The photo is a view from the bungalow.
I'd recommend Center parcs to anyone. its fantastic for children, but equally it makes a brilliant break for adults. I had a facial at the Aqua Sana spa centre. it cost £55, but the level of service I got- £55 seemed cheap. I did a watercolour class that I was nervous about doing (I haven't painted for at least 25 years)but I really enjoyed it and it has inspired to me to carry on.
Steve and Dave went clay pigeon shooting. they were lucky that they did it just after a snow storm. Steve got 5 clays out of 10!
The Little Dudes were sad to leave and so was I.

Last Night
Last night we went to see Simon Brett at Southend library. Simon is one of my favourite authors and I really enjoyed the talk. it was very funny. We also had wine and nibbles. I managed to talk to him (me very stammering) and he signed my book for me. He even put happy Birthday.
I bet all the people who know me that were taking the pee of how I spent my 40th feel pretty stupid now.
Or perhaps they don't..

Today's the day...
...I finally turn 40. I got lots of cards. And lots of presents:
Money
gold bracelet
posh crystal earrings (schwarskwi something I can't pronounce it let alone spell it)
foot stuff
lip glosses
bed cover - it is huge and makes the bed look like a princess bed.
water colour paints and pad
necklace (the pendant is made of glass. As Kath and Kim would say it is very unusual and nice)
boots
chocolates
wine
photo frame (2)
Not bad eh?
Steve is taking me up to lunch. I think it will be a posh lunch because he is wearing a shirt.

Blonde
Today I took the plunge and went blonde. Over the years I have been red, brown, black and yellow. Mum did the hi- lights for me. To be honest the faff of hi lights is one of the reasons that I've been brown for the past few years. It takes about 2 hours instead of 30 minutes normal hair dye. Still now I'm getting a tad older I thought I'd make the effort. You know I'm worth it and all that cobblers.

Shallow
I took Tommy for an early walk this morning- well early for me - it was before 9 and it is Sunday. Its dank, dark, drizzly day and lots of houses had their lights on. I sniggered to myself -my house (oh ok our house) is south facing and light and we don't need the lights on. The house gets flooded with natural light. Instead of feeling grateful I feel superior. Shallow Gina Robbo.
Walking past the posh flats (although I'm sure the owners call them apartments) that over look the sea I noticed that one of them had their bedroom at the front. My first thought was what a lovely view to have from your bed. My second thought that the view was totally ruined by me looking into their bedroom. Unless you are very uninhibited it is a bit shy making to be having a cup of tea, reading the papers with bed hair and strangers being able to see you. My third thought was Shallow Gina look at marvelous nature not at other people's houses!
The oldest Little Dude came home from his first ever school trip on Friday. He had been gone for five whole days. We all missed him, but poor Angela missed him dreadfully. Little Dude hadn't washed since Wednesday. He told me that he thought he had bruised his leg but it turned out to be dried on mud.

Saturday
Been poordy/vomity the last few days - which was very annoying as I had to cancel my works birthday drink and I had REALLY been looking forward to that. Steve was going to come down and meet everyone. Feel better today but have come out in a load of spots around my nose. Will the misery never end?

Oh Gwen!
Just watched Torchwood. Oh Gwen you can't marry someone just because they really, really love you. You have to really, really love them back.

Celebrate
On Saturday I had the first of the Big 40 celebrations. It was a traditional Essex Girl Night out - pub and a curry. Angela and Mum presented me with a photo album of my life. That was such a sweet thoughtful gesture - it meant to the world to me. Angela gave a speech. I was spoilt with a big WAITROSE (!) birthday cake. I'm very lucky with my family and friends. I had a humongous hangover the next day ...but it was worth it.
Thanks Mum, Angela, Jean, Esther, Mads, Sally and Sharon for a great time!

Super Cooper
Re-reading Riders by Jilly Cooper. I had forgotten what a sh!t Rupert Campbell Black was and originally you do feel a bit sorry for Helen. I think Jilly is one of the most under rated writers ever - if you've never read her give one of her books ago. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Greyhounds
There is an article in The Sunday Times today about a healthy greyhounds being out to sleep and their body parts being sold. You can read it here. I can't believe it as we use the greyhound clinic. The vet diagnosed Penny's cancer and I found him to be humane and caring. Steve and I really felt that he loved and understood the dogs. I find it so hard to believe this story, I feel that there must be some sort of explanation - but I wished I hadn't left Penny's body there. I tell you one thing- it has made me anti greyhound racing. The dogs are just a waste product of betting.

Leap Year
I just had to blog today to commemorate* leap year. When I was younger I used to begrudge leap year - having to wait a whole day longer for my birthday. Now I think Yaay an extra day of being in my thirties. I think it should be a Bank holiday, as it is a little bonus day.

Scaredy
Watched Torchwood tonight (the pre Watershed episode) and got a bit scared. Hide behind the cushion scared.
I remember Buffy ( does Russell T ever acknowledge his debt to the great Joss?) episodes that had me diving behind the cushion. Angel had its moments too. I think that Torchwood will become a classic in a way those shows are. What I'm trying to say is that these shows have you (well, ok, me) completely suspending disbelief. They are little worlds that for 45 minutes you (well, ok, me)are totally involved with and the characters seem real. You (well, ok, me) feel part of the gang.
Note to concerned readers: Don't worry I DO have friends. I CAN tell the difference between fact and fiction - just sometimes I chose not to.

Unbelievable!
Went into Lush (my favourite luxury toiletries shop) to get some stuff for the Mums for Mother's Day. The lady said she popped me some a sample of a complimentary face pack. I'll have that! It turned out to be an Anti Wrinkle face mask. I was shocked as I thought that my chubster face hid the wrinkles! Still used it though - and it was very nice.

Mental health
There has been a lot about mental health in the news with Paul Gascoigne's and Britney's troubles. Mental illness scares the cr*p out of me, because you can't rely on yourself. Your thoughts and beliefs will not be based in reality. And if you can't trust yourself who can you trust? If you break an arm you know you've broken yourr arm and to get help. You probably won't realise your mentally ill because it becomes normal for you. There is a stigmas sttached to mental illness so sufferers may be too ashamed to get help.
When I was depressed (when I start sentances like that it reminds me of Uncle "during the war") it was horrific. It took me a long time to admit that I wasn't just down, that I would get over it and that I needed to see a doctor. I really believed that seeing a doctor would be a waste of time. I had thoughts racing through my head all the time, I thought I smelled, a feeling of keeping tears at bay, that people were laughing at me and when I'd wake up in the mornings I felt really scared. During all this I had a base line feeling of flatness. Antidepressants did help - they stopped the swirling thoughts. I had therapy as well and that really helped. I'm now a great believer in therapy and would recommend it.I'd say it took about 3 years to get through to the other side. Depression seems to go in cycles, with gradually wider gaps between each episode. I learnt to recognise the warning signs and to get help quickly. I was blessed by having a fantastic support system, if I couldn't trust myself at least I could trust them. Well him really, as Steve bore the brunt of it. It was Steve that forced me to the Doctor's, and I'm very thankful that he did.

A Change of heart
Esther rang yesterday. She still can't get over me being 40 this year.
Esther:Its middle aged
Gina (sarcastic): Thanks for pointing that out it hadn't occured to me.
But you know what reader? I'm actually looking forward to my birthday. Bring it on! I think being in my forties will be quite fabulous. And I don't fancy the alternative much.

So it begins
I ring up Esther. She tells me she has to keep it quick, she has just got home and has 2 kids and a husband to sort out.
Gina: I'll be quick - I'm (deep breath) 40 this year and I'd like a girls night out. Keep the 8th March free.
Esther: (pause)You're 40 this year?
Gina: Yeah. I can't believe it.
Esther: I can't believe you're 40. 40. (then recollects herself) yeah ofcouse I'll keep the 8th free. We'll talk later in the week. Gina! 40!
Gina: I knooow.
Esther: I'm so sorry mate.
Gina: Thanks.
Do you think I'll be getting "With Sympathy" cards instead of birthday cards?

I don't
I was getting my celeb gossip fix and noticed that Posh and Becks have renewed their wedding vows. Many years ago, in fact in pre Robbo days I met an American girl who told me that for her parents' Silver Wedding they were going to renew their wedding vows. I thought it was strange then and I think its strange now. My puritanical side thinks that it smacks of showing off. It seems over the top. To me wedding vows are heavy duty, they only need to be said once.
I tell you something weird though - I have no memory of actually saying my vows. I can remember going to get married, standing in front of the Registrar and being worried that I might start to cry. (I was so happy! So excited!). Steve says his bit and then its my turn. I listen intently to the Registrar so I can repeat after her... Then my memory cuts to signing the register. I can't remember the middle bit at all. That makes me feel a bit sad. Perhaps we should renew our wedding vows afterall....

Man in the Morning
Mr Robbo loves radio (at least that is the excuse he gives me for going everywhere with his ear phones on. You don't think he might be tuning me out...do you?). Mr R is not one to blow his own trumpet (although he did play trumpet in the school orchestra, so at one time he did blow his own trumpet) but he has done some broadcasting. Radio is his passion. So when he raved about Man in The Morning I wasn't sure I'd like it, being more of a telly girl. I don't listen to radio that much- just when I'm getting ready for work and The Archers omnibus. However I can recommend it as a rollicking good read- however it does contain some VERY naughty words -so be warned.

St Valentine
This is what I think about Valentine's Day:
When I'm in a relationship I'm not bothered by it. When I was single it made me feel like lonely.
Steve and I usually give each other a card, but we're not bothering this year. As you know dear reader it was our anniversary last week and we've still got the cards up on the mantelpiece. BTW do you know why we got married in February? I suggested it because there ia a 18 month age difference between us. If we had got married later than March but before September it would have looked like I was TWO years older than Steve on the marriage certificate. I didn't want to be an old bride- and I was 31 in March 1999. Of course I now realise 31 is young. I'm still glad that it looks like I'm only a year older than Steve on the certificate. Shallow but true.

At work we won £44.40 on the Euro millions. That is 47p per person. My life won't change but hey I'm a winner!

Food
I cooked a mushroom curry this afternoon. I like having time to cook on Sunday and have the radio on as I poodle about. I added some Green Thai curry paste that I had bought from the Chinese cash and carry. I don't normally using curry paste but thought this would be authentic. I suppose it was but it was a taste disaster as it was far too hot to eat. We ended up throwing it away. The Robbos like spicy but this was vindaloo hot. I'd spent ages preparing all the veg and cooking it. I'm now cooking pie and potaotes. I've thrown the rest of the paste away.
Sunny Sunday
Today for the first time in ages I ventured out with out my scarf. I even sat out in the garden and enjoyed a cup of tea. Spring is in the air.

Euro Millions
The Euro millions jackpot this weekend is £96 million. I assume that is pounds not Euros. At work we've done a sweep stake thing. Now what would I do if I won? Lets say, we win and my share is about a million.
I would.....
Book a holiday. A remote Thai island would be nice.
That's it really. I don't know that I would want to give up work, perhaps cut down on my hours. I like where we live, I'd splash out on some home decoration, but I'd be in no rush to move. I'd like a detached house with a big garden- but I don't think my million would stretch that far (don't forget the running costs) We've got a nice car. it would be lovely not to have to worry about money. Sensible aren't I?

Willow Wocks.
And you what is really weird, apart from the fact I'm 39 and doing quizzes like this is, is that I've got a jumper like Willow wore on BTVS. When she was going through her geeky period. It is crochety. multi coloured and I bought it from matalan. And I really liked it.
I ripped this quiz off Dan. I rip a lot of stuff from his blog.

Happy Anniversary

Well the Robbos have made it to 9 years. I met Steve from work and we had all you can get tapas for £10 per person. It was very tasty. Steve is now watching the football and I'm on the PC. Who says romance is dead?! I tried to upload a wedding photo but have had problems, so I thought I'd post a photo of my knight in shinning armour. Just think girls, he is my reason for living..

More chairs
...After discussion with Mr Robbo I'd be willing to compromise with this. He cheekily said that we would have to upgrade everything else to that level of poshness, but as I pointed out everything else is posh!
Pull up a seat
When we moved into our house we splashed out on a big three seater settee. We didn't have any thing else left to splash for armchairs. A few months later we bought a rocking chair. This is fine when it is just us two but when the Robbos are entertaining it can get a bit squished. Sometimes I even end up sitting on the floor. At my age! We've been discussing what furniture we should buy next time we get a bit of dosh. Steve fancies getting tub chairs and I think they are a good choice. Not over designed, not made out of horrible cheap leather and they do look comfy. But then I saw this beauty. I know it is expensive, and doesn't solve the seating issues but I love it. I'd keep the white shell and opt for the olive leather interior.

Holiday
The other days I was reading the Lurchers blog and read this. I was very interested as it is difficult taking dogs on holiday. We took the dogs to Wiltshire a few years ago, it was a beautiful cottage but we couldn't leave the dogs in the house unattended. I completely understood and wouldn't have felt happy leaving the dogs by themselves but it did limit us. Also the garden wasn't secure - the first time we let the dogs out Penny took a flying leap over the low wall. So that meant if we went out into the garden the dogs had to be put on a lead. That said, we did have a nice time. But we didn't go back either.
Which is why I found this so exciting. We've booked the caravan because the cottage has already been booked. I can't wait. Tom will love it! Thanks for the tip AOJ!

Oh My!
I've just been in to the bathroom and I can't believe my eyes. Steve bought some bars of soap today. Nothing out of the ordinary there. What took me by surprise was ...he has unwrapped them and put them in my little soap display tray thing that I keep at the end of the bath, along with the bath bubbly and candles.
I've know that man for 11 years and he can still surprise.
What I do know though he won't be pleased when he reads this blog. Mr Robbo has his street cred to think about.

Falling
I fell down like a ton of bricks today. I was leaving work, so I had a spring in my step, and the next thing I know I was lying on my side, assuring concerned bystanders that I was ok. I was a bit scared of walking after that.
Falling over reminded me of learning to ride a bike. I must have been about 4. This was in the 70s so they're weren't any safety precautions like helmets. I can remember crashing off the bike and just getting back on. I don't ever remember being scared, although Dad said after one fall I kicked the bike and shouted "That bike is a fidget!" Aah how cute was I?
I learnt to roller skate on "roller boots". This was the early 80s. I don't remember falling over much. I used to be able to do circles and skate backwards. Then Angela broke her arm really badly and I completely lost my nerve.
The last time I fell over I was walking the dogs down a - well hill is a huge exaggeration- a slope but better describe it. One second I was at the top, next second I was on my bum with two concerned dogs, dog breathing all over my face. I don't think they fell with me, they just trotted a bit faster. In fact both dogs were "Let's do that again!"
Anyway my right thigh is sore and I think they'll be a big bruise there tomorrow.

Rehomed greyhounds
Germaine Greer has a greyhound for a pet and she wrote this
I wish she hadn't written it. It is hard enough for greyhounds to be re homed as it is. Greyhounds don't need great big gardens and they don't need massively long walks. It is a shame some one who might be interested in having a retired greyhound for a pet may be put off by this article.

Unexpected Kindness
My train season ticket stopped working on Monday. Because I got the ticket through work (it is the most expensive thing I own apart from the house!)I have to get a letter from Human Resources. That I can't find on the system, not that I've had much spare time at work. its not such a big deal as the station people let you through the barrier ok. I think they are used to the tickets not working.
This evening as I got to my home station, I called through to the ticket lady to be let through. She is a bit scary. I've seen her take no sh!t from customers. Anyhow she lets me through.
Scary ticket lady: Come here and I'll replace your ticket.
Me: You can't I have to get a letter from HR
Scary lady: I don't care I'll change it for you.
See even when she being nice there is a twinge of scariness. Any how she changed my ticket, no fuss. She was the last person I expected to bend the rules or go out of her way to help. Still a bit scared of her though.

I don't understand....
DON'T READ THIS IF YOU INTEND TO READ/ARE READING "THE RIGHTEOUS MEN" BY SAM BOURNE
I MEAN IT.....DON'T COME MOANING TO ME
ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO READ FURTHER?
HERE IT IS......
At the end Will mentions that the world only now has one righteous man, and he isn't in a position to good works yet. The Rabbi replies that they would be righteous men going about their business now, the moment has passed the group has been replaced. So if this Righteous Men have a Slayer-like ability to replace a vacancy caused by death.....what was the worry?

Blue
The littlest Dude ate so much of the special Tardis cake icing, his poo turned blue. He had Tardis poo!
I got soaked to the skin coming home from the station. Not in a sexy "oooh my shirt has gone all see thru and my clothes might all fall off and my hair is all so wet and wild" way. No in "my anorak is sticking to me, my feet are wet through my boots, my hair is plastered flat to my head and I can't see anything through my glasses " way.

Biccies.
On Saturday Steve bought a huge box of broken biscuits for £2.99. This evening he opened it. OMG- it is like we died and gone to biccy heaven. Chocolate fingers, malted milk, digestives, bourbons, caramels, cookies. And they're not really broken- more like chipped round the edges. Mmmmmnnnn.

....Am I the only one who doesn't like blogs with soundtracks? It just seems so invasive. Isn't it enough that I'm reading the blog?

Dogs
Steve showed me a picture of a retired greyhound looking for a home. She is mostly black with some white bits and she is 3 years old. The description says that she is timid around people and really needs a home that has a male greyhound. She is very good around other dogs. She sounds perfect.
BUT we due to go away in March. And one dog is easier (and cheaper than two)than two.....and we still haven't repaired the damage Penny did to the hall way. But still...I told Steve to stop showing me dogs if he's not sure that he wants another dog. heck I'm not even sure I want another dog. She did seem perfect though.

Sick
Friday did not start well. Work up feeling sick, got ready for work anyway and after a couple of trips to the loo went to the station. Got to station and had "an episode" at the ladies there. Decided to get on the train, still felt very unwell , got off after 2 stops and got the train home. Went back to bed and was amazed when I resurfaced 4 1/2 hours later. Still felt sick but felt a lot better. So ANOTHER day off work AAARRRGGGH.
Felt a lot better Saturday and feel fine today. Hopefully all the lurgy-ness has gone now.

Wednesday
When we got in from work, Tom had peed up against the hallway radiator. Steve cleaned it up with bleach. Tom rarely "lets himself down" but it was up against the rad and we've got the heating on. This made the smell worse and the hall way smelt a strange mixture of bleach and dog pee. Not pleasant.
This morning my day started by mainly going to the toilet - so to make it to work with out disgracing myself I took some Imodium. That will be me for a week now - that is some strong stuff. Fun times at RobboWorld!

Stuff about me.
I don't make New Year's resolutions. I know that there are a lot of things I could/should improve about myself. I find it very easy to be hard on myself and think of how an ideal Gina should be. However I'm going to write down all the things I like about myself. I am one of God's little Sunbeams after all.
1. Although a queeny bitch once said that I'm not as funny as I think I am:I do think I have a marvellous sense of humour and MY jokes do make ME laugh.
2. I try to make people comfortable. I'm thoughtful like that.
3. I pride myself on being a good judge of character-most of the time.
4. I've a lot of general knowledge and "get" a lot of references in films and books. Which I then point out to the person sitting next to me.
5. If the wind is blowing in the right direction, I am kind.
6. I'm a good listener. This may backfire on the talker as I will say "But you said..."
7. A hairdresser once told me that I handle my "problem" hair very well. And I actually said "thanks" to that. Then I thought but I haven't got problem hair..I like my hair.
8. I like my hands, especially my finger nails.
9. I'm lucky. I have got a supportive, loving family. A great husband and good friends.

Friday
Back to work today after having the lurgy. Actually still have lurgy-ness but am bravely battling on. Voice still not back to its dulcet lovely tones. Also have lurgy spots around my nostrils. And I'm still getting bogeys. Oh Yuk I hate having a bogey nose. Yuk YUK YUK. And according to Mr Robbo I'm snoring. He reckons that I must be really tired as the terrific snoring isn't waking me up.
Watched Blood Ties last night. It finishes next week. I really hope that they are going to make another series as I'm really enjoying it. At first I first it was a bit X files but with a vampire and only kept watching because I loved the books. Then I warmed more to the series and stopped comparing it to the books. The actors make the whole thing believable and the chemistry is good. However Henry never showed any sign of an English accent, even in the flash backs - but I'm over that now.

Sober
Look its New Years Day , I'm up early and I haven't got a hangover. Young Gina would never have thought that was possible.
So far this year:
I haven't eaten
I haven't bathed
I haven't cleaned my teeth
My marriage is celibate (perhaps it has something to do with the first 2 on my list)
I haven't even had a cup of tea.
Still I've only been up for half an hour.
One thing I have done already I'm afraid is swear. I stubbed my toe on the bed. Ouch!
Still haven't got my voice back. When will the misery end?

Happy New year
I have lost my voice. I haven't been able to speak since Saturday. I HATE not being able to talk. Its boring.
As I haven't been able to talk I've been thinking instead. (I know you should be able to think and talk at the same time. I normally talk and then think...) I've been thinking about pivotal moments in my life. The things that have made me the person I am today.
1. Going to a senior school where I didn't know any one at all. V.scary at the time but it taught me to rely on myself and to make the effort to make friends.
2. Manipulative boyfriends taught me not to believe everything some one tells you. And to trust my gut instinct. Let their actions tell you what they are really saying.
3. Travelling the world - that there is no place like home. And for many travelling doesn't broaden the mind, it confirms their prejudices.
4. Not having children. For the first time in my life I didn't get something that I really wanted. It made me look deep inside myself. I think this more than anything made me grow up.
5.Finally getting my maths O level on the 4th attempt. Application is more important than talent.
My New Years Eve will be rather subdued. In fact I don't think I'll be staying up till Midnight - but I hope you, dear reader, have a rollicking good time!

The Spark has gone
Came home last night, feeling cold-y. Sore throat and losing my voice (think of it as a belated Christmas present Steve) and sneezing. And there was a blumen power cut, from 6 in the evening to 6 this morning. Without electricity the house seemed dead. We went to bed about 9 as I was feeling pretty tired anyway but neither of us could really relax until power was restored. I was worrying about the tropical fish - no air pump and no heating thingy working. I was gagging for a cup of tea as well.
I love electricity I do.

Christmas
If my Nan was still alive she would be 109 years old today. Happy birthday Nanny Sarah!
We went over Mum's for Christmas lunch. The food was all so delish we all got quite worn out eating it all. In the evening we ate cheese and biscuits and pickled onions. The air was a bit ripe. We watched To the manor Born for all time's sake - but it wasn't funny. At all.
We went to Church Christmas Eve- the only time of year we go to church. I don't know if I believe in God but I need to sing a few carols, say some prayers in a freezing cold Church otherwise Christmas may as well be Winterval.

Another bloggy quiz...
| Your Christmas Sprit Level: 55% |
You have a lot of Christmas spirit, and it's evident to most people who know you. You love most things Christmas, and you do your best to make sure everyone has a great holiday. While you like the more commercial aspects of Christmas, you truly know what the spirit of Christmas is about. You're all about giving, being kind, and sharing the spirit of Christmas with everyone you know. |
I'm really rather good aren't I?

Stuff
I've just read "A Long Way Down" By Nick Hornby. It is about four people that meet on the roof of a tower block intending to jump off. One of them, Maureen is a single mother with a disabled son. Every one else can see why she would want to kill herself. Now, I won't give away any endings (for a change!) but I've been thinking about this disabled son, Matty. We're not told what is wrong with Matty (or if we were I missed that bit.)but he is in a wheelchair , needs help breathing, incontinent, unable to talk and maybe unable to hear. It is underlined that anyone could take care of Matty, when he goes to the respite home he is not scared, doesn't miss his Mum, he is ok. It could well be that Matty doesn't even notice that he has moved. And I thought as I was reading , well that's not so bad is it? Its not as if he is miserable, confused , scared, frustrated. He can't move so you don't have to worry that he will wander off or hurt himself. You don't have to worry about him being violent. He won't bore you by talking about the same thing. Matty seemed a bit Disney-fied to me.

Electric toothbrush RIP
My electric tooth brush died last night. I was sitting on the loo seat cleaning my teeth and it just stopped. I couldn't (and more importantly Steve) couldn't revive it. I don't think it ever really recovered when I dropped it a few months ago and Steve had to mend it with masking tape. I've had the tooth brush for 8 years so it did have a good innings. I used a manual tooth brush today, but it wasn't the same. Although it may help my bingo wings if I remember to use alternate arms. After Christmas I'll get a new one. I'm not going into town the Saturday before Christmas. Oh no.

Well I never
On the walk to work I was thinking about things I've done that I thought I would never do. Its ok folks - its clean stuff- what sort of girl do you think I am?
Getting the nerve to do the Creative Writing courses.
Being artificially inseminated. ( I think they must have used water.)
Staying at the Royal Brompton's visitors' quarters.
Working in London again.
Backpacking.
Calling an ambulance because my (ex) boyfriend had slashed his wrists.
Getting married.
Giving up eating fish.
Keeping a blog.

Thursday
Its cold, work is busy and we're tired. Lets get a takeaway. Only they get the order wrong - instead of vegetable rice we get a meat dish. that's right - MEAT has made its way into Robbo World. Don't they know RobboWorld is a meat free zone? Steve rings the Chinese - only to get an earful about how we owe then money for the meat!!!!! Steaming Steve takes the meat dish back and the £1 we allegedly owe them. No one is in the takeaway when he goes in ( I think they're hiding under the counter.)and he leaves it on the counter top. I'd rather given the stuff to Tom but Steve is more principled than me.
Steve ended up eating biscuits and i had a packet of crisps. Ho hum.

Nuts
Today we (Angela's family, Mum and Dad , me and Steve) went to a restaurant for lunch. Angela's lot are going over to Ireland for Christmas so this was our family Christmas lunch. Angela had booked it a month ago and explained about Joe's nut allergy. The restaurant said it wouldn't be a problem. Why then was Joe in tears, Angela had to insist on speaking to the Chef and the Chef was under the illusion that one of us had a Gluten free diet? I could excuse if we hadn't warned then when we booked the meal. If it was going to be a problem for them they shouldn't have taken the booking. Mark if you're reading this ( and if not why not!)is America more geared up for nut allergy sufferers?

Fed up.
I'm fed up. I've just been reading a blog (I'm so fed up I'm not going to link to it) where the writer states she can't bear people referring to their pets as their children. After all children are a lot more work/more rewarding than pets etc etc. WE ARE ALL KNOW THAT YOU STUPID WOMAN but some of us have to go to plan B. I wish I had the luxury as being as sensitive as her.

The look of love.
What I'm going to tell you is true and hasn't been exaggerated for comic effect.
Yesterday Steve and I were sitting on our big green settee. Steve was doing stuff with his phone and I was looking at him. I was thinking how much I loved him. How well he had looked after me when I was poordy. Of all the things we had been through together. How I couldn't imagine my life with out him. Steve looked over to me and said: Stop looking at me you weirdo.

Monday
Lewis came second (again) ...and it was good to see boxing so well represented.
When I go to work in the morning I sit in the same seat. A bloke gets on further down the line and sits next to me. We never acknowledge each other. I even wonder if he realises that he sits next to the same woman. Commuting is weird.

Yah ! Go Lewis!
I want Lewis Hamilton to win Sports Personality of the Year. The reason I want to win is because he achieved so much in his debut Grand Prix. Lewis did so well that people started to take it for granted that he would win, in the same way we take for granted that Johnny Wilkinson will score a drop kick. I admired the way Lewis coped with all the in fighting.

Be careful of what you wish for...
I've been moaning about how I never get to see our home in day light during the week. Well this Thursday and Friday I got my wish. I wake up about 5.30 each morning and lie there for 15 minutes waiting for the alarm to go off. Off went the alarm, I sat up and stretched -and ping! my neck went. A shooting pain from my chin to my shoulder. It was agony bending over to put the plug in the bath but I kept thinking the pain would go and I can't call in sick over this.( I hate having sick days as it just causes more work for your colleagues. Also I haven't been at that job long and I don't want them to think that they can't rely on me.) When I tried to wash my hair and couldn't lift my arm I realised that it wasn't getting any better. Steve had to ring work for me because I couldn't hold a phone to my ear. Reader, I was crippled. Steve took me over to my parents because he didn't want to leave his crippled wife home alone. I even needed help getting up from a chair. My parents did a good job looking after their elderly child. I went to the Doctor who advised it was a muscle spasm.(Angela had something similar years ago and it turned out to be a sinus infection.) I used industrial quanties of Deep Heat. When I woke up Friday it still really hurt- the pain started to go about 7 Friday evening. I've just got a niggle now, still using the Deep Heart but leaving off the Nurofen.
The moral of this story - be very careful what you moan about.

Dinner for one
Steve is out tonight, going to a works meal. So I'm cooking for myself tonight. It is hard to summon up the energy to do anything, after all I'll have to do the washing up as well. I'm cooking wedges and melted cheese. Tasty but not exactly the healthiest meal. Perhaps if I lived alone I'd treat myself to a dish washer and buy loads of crockery.
BTW I looked at the Echo on line tonight and was amazed to see Steve had commented on one of the forums. He kept that quiet...

Tesco Time
I've booked my Tesco delivery slot for 22nd December. Getting our Christmas shop delivered is becoming a Robbo Christmas tradition. It really does make life a lot easier and gives us more time. If you're thinking of booking a slot for Christmas, get a move on as there weren't many spaces available.
I put up the Christmas decorations yesterday, ignoring Mr Robbo's comments as to if it was too early. If I thought it was too early I wouldn't be doing it would I? We haven't got that many decorations anyway. Sharon and Tom came over last night and Sharon has put up all her decorations and they have got TWO Christmas trees. We've only got a little tree because we don't trust Tom not to pee up a proper sized tree.
